KGNU Radio in Boulder has deemed "Ready When You Are" as the number 4 Top Classical Release for 2003.

"Starting with my first guitar at age seven from my Dad, I fell in love with playing and composing for this wondrous instrument.  I wanted fresh new music for this CD. Our roots connect us to the past and move us "Into the Future". In the 21st century we need new music for the nylon stringed guitar. May this music inspire you, cause reflection and add joy to your life. From my heart to yours, touch the world with your peace and love".

Reviews

"Ready When You Are shows a heartfelt passion for Mediterranean music and history. ("Don Pelayo" comes with notes in the sleeve about the Moorish invasion of Spain and Nessa’s interpretation of ‘clashing swords’ via plucked guitar strings). Nessa Marquez (her surname suggests she’s Latina or Spaniard, though she speaks with a UK accent) offers a striking interpretation of flamenco music, tinged with gypsy/Eastern rhythms, more fleshed out and delicately executed than that of the Gipsy Kings Best of  I used to listen to. Songs like “Don Pelayo,” “Allemande,” “Taj Mahal,” and the artsy “Pavane for a Dead Princess” stand out.  In case I wasn’t already hooked, Nessa offers “Medley” which replays every song in reverse and sounds just as good, if not better. The final track “Voices from the Not So Deep” is a throwaway comical interlude, placed on the album in case we thought the album was “too serious,” (in Nessa’s words) though she really shouldn’t have. Ignore the last track and enjoy the rest. Quite an unexpected, refreshing gem!"
Jack Rabid - Big Take Over Music Magazine, December 2003

" Mixing some impressive flamenco and classical techniques with a fondness for cool Jazz and pop, Colorado- based Nessa sounds right at home on her latest album.  Produced by Greg Roberts, the excellent recording and mastering captures a fine solo nylon string guitar performance.  Spotlighting a rousing 8+ minute cover of the traditional Flamenco favorite "Malaguena", the masterful and imaginative album is a fine platform for Nessa's compositional gift.  All in all, Ready When You Are is a masterful and imaginative album of captivating solo guitar sounds"
20th Century Guitar Magazine, July 2003

"It is always a pleasure to preview work of local artists.  It is even a bigger pleasure to review local artists who have the quality of sound produced by Nessa Marquez.  Nessa began her musical career very early in life.  By age eight she gave her first public performance.  This excellent flamenco guitarist combines her musical talents of voice and guitar to captivate the listener.  But her talent does not stop there. Eight out of nine cuts in this production are original tunes.  As you begin to listen to this CD, Nessa takes you through an enchanted journey of sounds combining elements of classical, jazz, flamenco with a pizzazz and funk along with contemporary sounds.  On track 11, Nessa summarizes this CD with segments of each song, giving you an overview of her creation. She culminates this production with unexpected humor."
Jose Reyes - Impacto Magazine, May 2003

"When it comes to music, some types seem to be filled with male performers and lack the female voice or vision such as in electronic or classical guitar music. After finding a great female electronica artists out of Warsaw Poland, it was only fitting that the classical genre be filled next. That's when I got Nessa's CD from Colorado. Her playing abilities change as much as her persona. Depending on what she wears, she takes on many different styles. The same applies to her music. Her CD, Grand Adventure, actually starts with a hand-drum percussion track and then on into the guitar stylings she offers, from jazzy to Spanish to classical. Her influences early in her teen years were Earth, Wind and Fire, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius and Ronnie Laws. I find it different from the normal releases you see everyday, and it's going to be available locally at Mountain Edge Records."
